Mitchell’s Blog » Blog Archive » Disconnect Regarding Data
I’ve read the comments to my last post a number of times and I think I now understand what’s happening.
There are a bunch of comments along the lines of “if Firefox starts to include something that tracks my behavior and automatically sends that information off to someone else, then I don’t want to use it anymore.” Absolutely. I don’t want to use that kind of product either. That’s why I’m part of Mozilla — to build products that don’t do this sort of thing. To be explicit: Firefox and Mozilla will remain intensely focused on privacy, protection of personal data and user control over that data. The Mozilla community won’t build or support products that do otherwise.

QMO testing wanted!
Armen spent the summer as an intern with the release group where he
undertook the ambitious task of updating our existing l10n nightly build
process for the 3,0 branch to something more sane and manageable. That
process is done now, and the release team put the new process into
production last week. I won't belabor the details. Armen has already
written about the process in his blog and John O'Duinn has more background in his blog .

The greatest thing is: Once you've reached the end of the video and the list of related videos is offered to you, you can simply navigate these videos and watch them in the popup-window without having to navigate to the VerifyAge-page again. So: Open ONE restricted video - Then watch them ALL!

Thunderbird Localization (L10n): Thunderbird 3 will be released
Three days ago, I informed you that Thunderbird 3 beta1 had been renamed to Shredder alpha3. So yesterday we had a Thunderbird drivers meeting to discuss what this all means for the next pre-release (beta1) and the overall release planning.
The outcome of that discussion was, that the earlier plan of releasing a first TB3 release candidate into the wild at the end of January or early February can no longer be kept. There are basically two reasons for this:
Mozilla Community Theme at stream of bytes
We’re listening to you and we’re excited about your ideas :)
Some time ago, Staś and Seth started a survey program to get an idea on what You feel about Mozilla. And in the very first survey they led, the very most commonly requested support from Mozilla was to provide Mozilla website template for community sites.
We were not surprised to see this in the survey results because it has been something that many of us have been considering a long time. How could we find creative ways to support all of our Mozilla contributors? How can we make life easier for everyone? We have all levels of communities, from large to small and new to old. Many do not have all the resources needed to create this on their own.
Pros and Cons of Feedly Add-on for Firefox
Is Is Feedly worth your time? As a new type of article for Firefox Facts, I thought I would weigh in on both the pros and the cons of this add-on and give you my final thoughts on if it is a keeper or not. Mind you – I am a very picky man.
Add-on Developers Survey: Raw Results
We recently conducted a survey of the add-on developer community. This post summarizes the quantitative results and some key findings only. There were several open-ended questions included on the survey. A special thank you to all those respondents that provided us with extensive feedback and great ideas. A summary of developer comments and suggestions will follow at a later date.
We had a total of 265 surveys completed. Note that some questions were mandatory, others were allowed to be left blank or unanswered and others allowed multiple answers. When multiple answers were permitted, the total number of responses for that question is shown.
Top 15 Support articles for localizers to translate
Before Firefox 3 was released, we gave localizers a list of Support articles that needed to be translated because they were linked to from within Firefox. But what about after that? If someone wants to get started translating other articles in the Knowledge Base, what are the top articles not linked from within Firefox?
After looking at support.mozilla.com traffic data (since the release of Firefox 3 and all-time), and weighting articles that we feature on the front page, I’ve compiled this list of top 15 articles that should be translated:
WiseStamp Adds HTML Signatures to Your Webmail Service
All platforms with Firefox: The WiseStamp beta Firefox add-on edits, saves, and applies rich HTML signatures to your web-based email accounts, including Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Hotmail, and AOL mail. With WiseStamp installed, you get a rich HTML editor that lets you create signatures with links, colors, images, and formatting, plus links to your favorite social network profiles. You can make more than one signature, too—like personal and business. Once you're in your webmail account, WiseStamp adds a signature drop-down so you can choose which sig to use with the current email, or it can insert it automatically. Take a look at some screenshots of WiseStamp in action.
thoughts on Thunderbird, Mozilla, Bellringing and more.
Having seen the recent post about MozMill Beta being released, and the wish to get bloat tests running on Thunderbird. I thought the two might be ideally suited - For Thunderbird, we need the bloat tests to be a series of user actions, just loading a series of messages isn’t enough and writing the driving code in javascript hooking directly into the functions to change the UI will be hard work.
