CALL TO ACTION : “REASONS”
Posted February 1st, 2008 byCALL TO ACTION : “REASONS”
GET PASSIONATE ABOUT SOMETHING TODAY
AND START SPREADING FOR NEW ‘REASONS’LIKE ITS 2004 ALL OVER AGAIN
I think its time to get super-energized again about spreading Firefox like we all did in the early days back in 2004.
Back then it was about spreading Firefox to people for a ‘reason’, turns out it was a reason that had huge appeal, ‘take back the web’ was the mantra and what a phenomenal success it has been, simply stunning, nothing has ever (to my mind at least) been so successful with such a small marketing budget, it really was powered by the people.
For a long time a personal project of mine has been in the pipeline, the project became a serious Add-on project endeavor to make a better, safer and more enjoyable web experience for young children and their parents (like me) and extended families on the web.
Today it launches as a 1.0 final version. It is called Glubble Family Edition.
It’s simply awesome imho more on it in 15 seconds time for now let me get this point across.
My point is about passion!
I believe that we can super-energize the drive for Firefox adoption again and get the buzz going like in 2004 by focussing on spreading Firefox to niche groups based on a single passionate ‘reason’ for doing so, like in this case, parents and families protecting their youngsters online with a parental control suite for Firefox called Glubble. Its a super serious and passionate topic and Glubble just bats the problem clear out the park, parents are already going crazy for it and switching to Firefox in droves!
Quick backgrounder to get you up to speed.
Glubble Family Edition is a new parental control suite for Firefox. Its objective it to help extend the adoption of Firefox by providing an enhanced web experience for families of elementary school age children.
Parents and family helpers have fun collectively deciding what their young ones can see online using a new personalization engine for Firefox that links family members browsing sessions and enables children to ‘ask a helper’ for permission to see new sites.
Written by Glaxstar ( a company I founded ) a true ‘Mozilla DNA’ company committed to helping the growth and adoption of Firefox by authoring many add-ons for many blue chip companies including, Nike, Google, Yahoo, del.icio.us and most recently the eBay companion for Firefox. Glaxstar continues to contribute here at spreadfirefox.com to maintain the site, we have an engineer (Paul Booker) working almost full time on the site daily. We’ve done this constantly over the last two years because we passionately believe that Mozilla’s mission and Firefox’s purpose is very important for the future of a free and open web for all.
I've been here as a lead admin on Sfx for over two years too, literally everyday I've been monitoring, helping, deleting spam post because I believe in the Mozilla mission and Firefox cause, I've seen some great things happen and now I'm super-excited at the prospect of us making a HUGE difference to young children and their families online, with Glubble for Firefox. It's truly a super cause, a real social contribution to take part in.
So if you really love Firefox then please help us, the call to action is simple...
Go tell all the Dads, Moms, Aunts, Uncles, Grandparents, older cousins and siblings you know that have a family member of elementary school age that they should get Firefox and take the Glubble Add-on for a try.
We’ve had 40,000 families test drive the beta since the summer of 2007 and we’ve been actively sending out updates for a couple of weeks, initial Feedback is simply brilliant, check out the site to see some testimonials.
Go tell them to ‘Get Firefox’ and install the Glubble Family Edition add-on for Firefox, its a whole new approach to parental control based on fun, collaboration and the family social network.
There’s never been a better reason to get Firefox since Firefox!
