Getting Started
There's a lot going on at Spread Firefox and many different ways you can get involved. Here are some tips to get you started.
Create an account
To participate in a project or a discussion you'll need an account.
- Click on Register in the login box at the of any page.
- You'll be asked to give us some information about yourself. We require you to tell us your:
- Username

Email
-
Password
-
Real name
-
Country
-
T-shirt size
-
Skills
We also suggest some projects you might be interested in. Joining them is optional and you can always leave them later if you change your mind.
- To try and prevent misuse of our site we require you to solve a captcha. An audio captcha is available for the visually impaired.
- After you've filled in the required information click "Create New Account."
You will be logged in to your new account and taken to the home page. You should also receive an email confirming your account and username.
Get to know the Community
The Spread Firefox community has grown to over 225,000 members from all over the world. There are so many great people to get to know and learn from that we wanted to make sure there was a centralized place for our members to hang out when not working on their individual projects. The Community @ SFx project is the place to go to get to know other Spread Firefox contributors and get their help navigating the site or starting projects of your own.

Find a project
Spread Firefox is organized by projects. Projects represent a common activity, goal, or interest that people come together around to promote Firefox. Here are a few places to look for a project that you'd like to contribute to.
- Featured projects - Check out this area on the front page for new or active projects that we think our users will enjoy.
- Projects list - You can see a list of all projects, including descriptions. You can also search the projects list to narrow it down.
- Recent discussions - All discussions are tied to a project. Check the recent discussions on the front page to see if any interest you.
- Registration page - When you create an account we suggest some projects to get you started.
- News and Events - Many projects host social events or activities you can participate in in person. Check the news and events section to see if any events are coming up in your area.
Not sure what to look for? Try searching the projects list for your country or region.
Official Projects
The Spread Firefox team runs several ongoing projects.
Resources - Documents, guides, images and more that you can use to spread Firefox and create your own Firefox materials.
Affiliates - Promote Firefox on your webspace and earn points.
Campus reps - Represent Mozilla on campus.
Events - Mozilla sponsors, supports, and participates in many events around the world. Find out when one is coming up in your area, and learn how to get Mozilla involved in your events.
Get Active - Simple ways to promote Firefox wherever you are.
How to join a project
Once you've found a project you're interested in, you'll need to join it to participate in discussions or create content like documents.
- You'll need to be logged in to your Spread Firefox account to join a project.
- Go to the page for the project you'd like to join.
- Click on the join link on the right side of the page.
- You'll be asked to confirm your choice to join the project. Click Join again.
You can join as many projects as you like.
Leaving a project
If you change your mind about being a member of a project you can leave at any time.
- Click on My subscription on the side of the page of the project you'd like to leave.
- Click Leave this project.
- To confirm that you'd like to leave the project click Remove.
How to start a project
If you don't find a project that you're interested in joining, or if you have your own idea for a project already you can start your own.
- Make sure you're logged in to your Spread Firefox account.
- Hover the mouse over Create Content in the login box at the top of any page.
- Choose Project from the list that appears.

Finding projects you've joined
Once you've found some great projects to get involved in you'll want to be able to find them again the next time you visit.
- Make sure you're logged in to your Spread Firefox account.
- Hover the mouse over My Stuff in the login box at the top of any page.
- Choose Projects from the list that appears.
You can also get to your projects from the Projects page
- Make sure you're logged in to your Spread Firefox account.
- Click on the Projects tab at the top of any page.
- Click on My Projects under the Projects Directory heading.
Keeping up with your projects
Besides visiting your projects' pages on a regular basis Spread Firefox can help keep you informed of activity via email or RSS feeds. You can choose to receive notifications of new posts to all your projects or you can choose to receive notifications for only some projects.
To subscribe to a project's RSS feed:
- Click on RSS icon
at the bottom of the project's home page. - Follow any instructions from your browser or feed reader.
To receive email notifications for a certain project:
- Hover the mouse over My Stuff at the top of any page.
- Choose Account Info from the list that appears.
- Click on the Notifications tab under your user name.
- Click on Projects under Notifications.
- Find the project you'd like to receive notifications for.
- Choose the type of notifications you'd like to receive. You can choose:
- All posts
- Forum posts
- Document posts
To receive email notifications for all projects:
- Hover the mouse over My Stuff at the top of any page.
- Choose Account Info from the list that appears.
- On the Account Info page click Edit under your username.
- Scroll down to Messaging and Notifications settings.
- Check Automatically enable notifications for any projects that I join. You can also choose how often notifications will be sent.
To manage your email notifications:
- Hover the mouse over My Stuff at the top of any page.
- Choose Account Info from the list that appears.
- On the Account Info page click Notifications under your username.
- Click Projects under Notifications
