URL of my site, does it really import?

I have found during the years I have in Search Engine Optimization that one of the most important things to take care of when you decide to start your site is the URL, no matter what your industry is, there will always be a most important keyword that you would like your visitors reach you with.

For this reason it is strongly recommended that since you think to get a site you make a little analysis of the market, it is a competitive market? who are my competitors? what's the difficult level to get top positions with a keyword.

You have to take in consideration to add or try to add your main keyword to your URL when you acquire. i.e,

If you find yourself in the need to sell t-shirts, and you will base your marketing campaign through organic SEO, a recommendation is to find an URL name like: redtshirts.com so the search engines find an added value to this keyword you are using here.

You can test this by going to Google:

Type a keyword, something like "Spanish School", you will find that almost sites listed there, use at least one of the two keywords mentioned above or both.

This is how you can test if the URL is important or no.

URL of my site

Yes, sometimes I use on my URL folder structure, the main keywords of my industry so I see Google and Yahoo put special attencion to this king of structures. But this is not all, you have to distribute keywords through Titles, descriptions, and of course use the meta keyword tag.

Some people says this is not important anymore, but it is, I have tested some of my sites with and without meta tags, and the result is that Meta taged sites do better on search engines.

Yes the url of your site is important. Google and Yahoo are looking for commitment to a topic so a focused url shows that to an extent.
