um.. okay I looked over one issue that i've discovered here.. i wrote Firefox in a font similar to the one you guys use... i designed it at 1:00am at night (barely 6 hrs before deadline) and posted it -- i really didnt knew about this competition (was having exams for lyk 3 weeks -- away from computer!!) please lemme know if my design is acceptable? http://www.flickr.com/photos/24808262@N08/
OH AND BY THE WAY I NEVER intended to use it as a proper logo.. from the spreadfirefox.com rules it appeared as if the trademark policy related only to the globe/fox logo... ITS KIND OF AN EXCEPTIONAL CASE~!
Good news and bad news.
Good news is that you are okay and have not violated any trademark policies (as far as I can tell). I believe there is far more flexibility with the "Firefox" term than there is with the Firefox Logo.
Bad news is that I don't believe your submission was added to the pool and therefore not accounted for in the contest review. There seemed to have been several instances where people thought placing 'tags' was sufficient, when in fact (as noted in the instructions) to qualify for a submission you must 'add' your design to the group's image-pool...!
There is a similar group created on Flickr for these late/lost submissions. You are welcome to add yours to that for now so that it has some visibility.
Then my mistake! If it was IN the contest image-pool. It was definitely reviewed. At the time I did not see it as a member of the image-pool. Thanks again!
*All Finalists will be subject to verification of eligibility and compliance with these Rules, will be required to sign and return to Sponsor an affidavit of eligibility (or equivalent if outside the USA), liability/publicity release within five (5) days of the date of notification, otherwise the chance to go to the second round of judging will be forfeited, and the Entrant having the next highest score will be deemed to be a Finalist*
I have question for the above rule. I think it will help everyone who qualifies. :)
Does this apply even if you are above 18. And if yes then what document will you require from people outside of the USA?
And I am guessing an email scan of whatever document you need will do.. Is that correct?
Thanks in advance.
I was wondering what the constrains are to editing the Firefox Logo. I have read the Trademark and Usage Policy thoroughly and the only thing I can find on the subject is under Logos and Merchandise it states:
'There are two additional broad categories of things you can't do with Mozilla's logos. The first is to produce modified versions of them.'
So am I right in understanding that so long as the logo is visibly recognizable as the Firefox Logo and it does not cause confusion as to the intention of the design, ie malicious intentions, then it's fine?
Unfortunately that design will not work. It definitely violates the trademark policy as it is altering the logo. Its a very very strict Trademark policy and so it does not support any modifications. This has been stressed many times and unfortunately a number of designs in the contest pool are not eligible for the second round. You still have about one week left to re-design and re-submit! Good luck.
Tara, correct me if I am wrong. Technically, no design including the Firefox logo is acceptable under the terms of the contest because:
1. The entrant design must be a vector file.
2. The Firefox logo is not available in vector format.
Ergo: The entrant design must not contain the Firefox logo.
.
Point #1 is established fact: "All designs must be print-ready, and created using a scalable vector graphics (SVG) program such as Adobe illustrator or Inkscape (an open-source SVG program)."
.
Point #2 is deduced from my years of effort in obtaining such a file.
.
The following quote seems to be in error and misleading: "The back of the T-Shirt will contain the Firefox logo and the Get-Firefox URL, so on the front you're free to be as abstract as you'd like. For example, you're certainly welcome to use the Firefox logo again in your art on the front but it's by no means mandatory."
.
Converting the logo (with all of it's gradients) to vector would certainly alter it.
.
To me, the saddest thing about the lack of a vector Firefox logo is the fact that the highest resolution raster image available ( http://www.spreadfirefox.com/node/461 you must be logged out to see it for some reason! ) has pixelation artifacts in the shadows and the right edge is clipped.
.
I would love to have a vector file that could be used by embroidery machines, vinyl cutters, and laser cutters. Years ago, I did prepress work for a company that does vehicle and building wraps. I wanted to wrap my car in Firefox design, but could not find any suitable graphics. I have to much respect for design to go bastardizing a logo. Honestly, I was taught that if you do not have a scalable, properly clipped vector file of your logo - you don't have a logo. What you have is a mockup of a logo.
But to be honest, I think it's kind of ridiculous. I know terms and conditions are there for legal reasons but this is a competition actually being run by Mozilla, what are they going to do? Sue themselves?
How can they run a competition saying 'Everyone, come and join the fun, be creative... oh and by the way you can't be creative with our logo'?
So pretty much, (I know its not manditory but still) if any contestant wants to use the firefox logo for a firefox t-shirt, it has to be plain. How is that going to be any different from any other firefox t-shirt that uses the logo?
And what's the harm in editing the logo a little? I know if it's gone beyond recognition then it's kind of silly but most contestants that manipulate the logo barely change it to that extent!
Mozilla, You really should think about terms and condition of your future competitions! Let the contestants be creative and if you don't like what they've done to the logo, then don't pick them as a winner! It's as easy as that. No harm done!
It's all kind of ridiculous if you ask me.
But that's my opinion.
Hi Michael
The guidelines regarding the use of the Firefox logo in this contest is not something that is in our hands, instead it stems from the Trademark Policies and legal issues which govern the use of our visual identities. I'm sorry there really isn't anything I can do about it and the Trademark Policies stand firm. Sure, it limits some design concepts and creative solutions with the logo in particular, but I don't think it in any way has a significant impact on the ability of designers to create cool designs - in fact I've already seen many impressive designs in the image-pool! I believe it actually encourages you to think outside the box and convey your message and contest themes in more creative/abstract ways. Perhaps resulting in a more unique and interesting T-Shirt than one that would focus on the Firefox Logo itself. As you can see there are many submissions that have modified the logo, and although they will not be eligible for Round 2, they have all been admitted into the image-pool and represent the creativity of our community. We appreciate everyone's hard work and creative talents.
Hi everyone,
After taking another look at my design I realized my jigsaw piece was hiding the tm symbol. I have updated a new version and hope this is completely allowed.
But I have been told that I cannot edit the Firefox Logo in this way. Can anyone explain if this is true or not?
I hope this thread comes in handy for some other people who may be confused with the topic.
THANKS for your support in this competition and your many comments! I found most of them quite useful. However I do have some questions for you myself . . .
I guess I read (most) of your rules and regulations page and didn't see any issues regarding entrance or submissions for Sri Lanka, am I correct?
I read in one comment posted by a member about an age issue!? I'm a 34 years, is my age o.k. to be an applicant?
Also I need to clarify somethings in my designs . . .
First, I need to ask you if the 1st and 2nd designs I have uploaded to your flicker group (FF3 Tcontest Group)is o.k., I mean are they eligible for entry or not??
A small description of my designs:
The fox and the globe may look similar to your original logo but if you look closely both designs are completly different thought they resemble the fox and the globe. The fox I have drawn carries a letter or rather a mail and goes from one point of the globe to the other showing that firefox reaches everyone around the globe. The globe may look similar as well but if you can see it shows more detail of the world map, Canada, North & South America, Greenland, Europe and Africa which in your original is covered mostly by Firefox. Is that o.k. or not??
The 1st design is the same as the second except that the Globe is surrounded by people showing a "V" sign in their hands for victory, meaning that Firefox has reached the entire globe and everyone, which could mean a kind of victory I guess!? Of course the people are a wee-bit too small to be seen clearly but it may look good on the print. Firfox text is towards the right-hand side of the design and carries a background of fire effect on the top part of the text to show it burns with passion throughout it's mission.
The 2nd design has the same drawing as the first but the text stands above.
Appreciate your comments on my designs . . .
Now you know why I'm having considerable doubts in my mind for using the Globe and Firefox in both my designs though completly different to your logo!?
I am preparing for my next Design and your comments on the above would be very helpful, so I can avoid any similar mistakes . . .
Hi - I just want to make sure: will it be acceptable if I use the logo (with no alterations made to it) cropped into a shape to such a degree that you don't see the logo - you basically just see some colour?
Ah! The Visual Identity Guidelines.
I read them, yet I wonder if they are perhaps somewhat... not applicable to this contest. Is it possible to alter the logo and still have the design accepted? Are there any specific guidelines or are these guidelines cut-and-dry?
I will be entering a submission that includes the fox, and no globe. I feel it doesn't mislead or mis-represent Firefox in any way... Is it possible to get this checked? Do I need to contact the Visual Identity Team?
Sorry for all the questions; just want to know if my idea is valid.
Unfortunately the Trademark policy is very very strict and the modifications you suggested above will not be accepted. I have been asked this question many times and the legal team's answer stands firm. No modifications! That includes covering the logo with other elements, removing individual elements from the logo, changing the color, texture etc... sorry.
After reading some posts on the flickr page, I came to the conclusion that my submission would be unacceptable. I will hold off on submitting until I redesign my entry.
But the questions still stand. If these points could be clarified, it would be greatly appreciated.
Each winner also agrees to participate in and cooperate with any promotional activity and/or publicity relating to the Contest as the Sponsor shall reasonably request from time to time.
I can understand waiving intellectual property, I do accept it, but my personal information is a different story. Sorry but Rule 13 looks like sell one's soul to Firefox contest. "from time to time" sounds like "anywhere anytime until decease"; "promotional activity and/or publicity" seems to vague. I think you should set specific limits and add more details on this.
Once I've submitted my entry and given the case I win, I think I'd have done enough for FF and the Contest. I'd rather not be bothered anymore, and if I have to be, then I'd like to know what for and until when.
I understand the concern, but although the legal language can be overwhelming, it is simply to protect both parties from any potential headaches or misunderstandings. Once the winners are determined, we want to publicize not only the winning entries but also the people who created these great designs. It is part of the contest that we will give credit to the winning designer. It is the winner's chance to get public recognition for creating a great design. Many professional graphic design firms or designers do not have this opportunity. Having your work displayed to a global audience is pretty cool stuff! It is a condition of the contest that all winners sign a publicity release since, in many countries, we may not legally use your name or image without a signed release. The release allows us to use this information in present and future promotions or campaigns. As you noted, any future requests must be reasonable. Of course we will work with the winners and only use such the information they are comfortable releasing. Any promotions probably will only require your name, a photo and maybe a blurb about yourself. We are not talking about publicity tours or anything time consuming.
By reading the Official Rules section on Eligibility. I believe residents of Columbia are eligible to participate in the contest!
Can't wait to see your designs!
Hi, I was wondering about the svg design rules. I have Inkscape but am no master. I have a little bit more skill with The GIMP but that isn't a vector graphics program. Would it be allowed if I made my design with gimp and transfered it to svg using Inkscape?
GIMP is indeed a raster-graphic editor program (free and open-source). If by "Transfer" you mean convert to a SVG art, then that may be an option (although not recommended). There are various tools that allow conversion from raster-graphics to SVG, but they are fairly advanced and the results are not guaranteed. I don't have much experience with those but I'm sure if your design is not too complex, the conversion will be spotless. You can certainly take that route if you feel more comfortable, as long as your final design is in a scalable vector format. Remember that its not enough to just 'save as' a SVG file format, your actual art-work must be a SVG. Hope that helps, and good luck!
For some reason I can't find the JPG shirt template mentioned; I can only find the PSD one. I don't have Photoshop so I really need the JPG file...It's probably right there, but I can't find it.
The JPG T-Shirt template is attached right next to the Photoshop file. Its actually displayed as a thumbnail view. So if you see an image of a white T-Shirt, thats it! Just right click and "save link as".
Hope that helps!
I am writing to on behalf of AIGA, the professional association for design. We are concerned about your design contest.
Although we realize that such contests are a popular way for organizations to generate publicity and participation—and to save costs—there are a number of reasons why asking for work without compensation except for a single design that is selected, which is termed speculative work in the profession, contradicts the ethics of our profession.
The first is that design is a process. It involves time, creative energy, strategy and, most importantly, client participation. For a designer to generate work without going through this process is to create something that is undeveloped and that does not reflect the client’s input and participation. The resulting work is not truly representative of the value or level of service designers provide, nor does it adequately or appropriately address your needs as a client. Just as you wouldn't seek legal or financial advice from a consultant prior to hiring them, a designer must also be well acquainted with your organization and goals if they are to make informed and responsible recommendations.
The other reason is that expecting speculative or uncompensated work demonstrates a trivializing of the contribution design makes to creating value for clients. Of all the entrants in your contest or competition, only one will be selected as a finalist. The time and work of all others will have gone for naught. This attitude on the part of a prospective client is likely to result in receiving work from students, inexperienced or untrained designers, or those less likely to get work from more traditional ways of demonstrating the soundness of their approach toward clients’ problems. The pool of work from which you will select will not necessarily represent the quality of work you deserve from seeking a professional designer. In the end, everyone loses.
We encourage you to reconsider holding this contest, and instead issue a Request For Proposals from qualified design professionals. I know that selecting a designer can be a difficult and daunting task. To assist you, the AIGA provides resources to help you research firms in your area. This database is available online at www.aiga.org/directory. We have also created a helpful guide that can assist you in researching qualified designers, writing a design brief, and managing the design process. This resource is also available free online at www.aiga.org/design-business-and-ethics.
We are pleased that you recognize the need for design, and hope that you will consider these recommendations in the spirit in which they are offered—to help you realize the most that design has to offer. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me directly at experience_design@aigacolorado.org.
Your consideration of these professional design issues is greatly appreciated.
I thank Mozilla Firefox crew for opening this Contest to everybody.
I'm a self-taught graphic artist, not a pro. I don't have any college grades because 1) I can't pay for one, and 2) I've always been a self-learner so I wouldn't go to college even if I could. Creativity and talent is all I can offer. Opportunities like this are very helpful for people like me who have little chance to get some exposure, and also very enjoyable for those who just have a nice idea and want a good time.
Despite I disagree with some points of the rules, I still think it's great and there should be more like this out there.
Three defense points in favor of Mozilla Firefox I can think so far:
1) Hiring a white-leafed, title-dressed designers staff for making a T-shirt is something one would expect Microsoft to do, but not Mozilla.
2) Traditionally, Firefox has been based on users. Users support, develop, test, polish, advertise, distribute and improve it. Leaving users out of this would be against Mozilla image and principles, and also very dissappointing.
3) Mozilla is a non-profit Foundation, they do it all for free. Pro designers will charge a nice load bucks. It would be unnecessary, unsuitable and unfair for Firefox crew to pay a lot for pro design services.
I believe you may have missed the point of this contest entirely.
You mention that "work without compensation," and "termed speculative work... contradicts the ethics" of professional designers. Yes this is true. I think that a $250 dollar gift certificate and no royalties (or even a tiny percentage of sales) would contradict those ethics.
No, if I were a professional designer and a member of the AIGA, I would not participate in this contest.
However, this is not a contest for professional designers.
This is a contest for people who may or may not have any desire to become professional designers! This is a small-time, online, amateur competition for a non-profit organization. No one hires five-star chefs to bake brownies for a church bake sale.
While, yes, a 'qualified design professional' would be able to do a smashing job making a t-shirt design for the folks at Firefox, I believe the Mozilla corporation is more interested in giving someone a gift and valuable recognition for helping to promote their wonderful, world-class, non-profit, open source software.
And, it is my personal belief, that Mozilla will get exactly the T-shirt they were hoping to get by pulling it out of that pool of "students, inexperienced" and "untrained" designers.
I agree with everything that you say here. I especially like, "No one hires five-star chefs to bake brownies for a church bake sale."
In addition, I would like to point out what was said before in a separate reply. Mozilla is based on individuals all contributing (for no "compensation" might I add) to all the projects hosted by Mozilla. To hire out simply because of some sort of official proof that someone has been trained in design is completely against what we, the Mozilla user, believe to be true of Mozilla.
Besides, how much could Mozilla *really* offer one of the all-powerful, omnipotent, and majestic AIGA members to do a single t-shirt design?
Mozilla doesn't pay out a fair prize amount because they don't have to, simple as that. They are on the front page of Google. Im sure out of all the millions of 3rd graders that see the contest link, there will at least be one autistic child that can manage to whip up something noteworthy.
I agree that it is spec along with 1000 other contests out there, but for me the nail in the casket was rules 12 and 13. Your lawyers know how to suck the fun out what should be a cool contest for a great product line. My excitement crashed....
Correct me if I am wrong:
12. states they can resell your design, and they will sell the t shirts without any consideration to royalties. This means they sell t shirts and profit after they give you a gift card, and they DON't have to give you credit at that stage. However, this is a standard work-for-hire practice. They own the copyright and moral right to the work - as if they created it themselves. I've never encountered a for-profit scenario before this.
13. They can share all your "personal" info and summon you to stand at a booth all day in the sun giving out tshirts without giving you compensation? (reasonable.?)
JUST READ IT..
Just those rules alone is why whatever country your in is probably VOID.
Now I really love Firefox and when I read about this contest I was really thrilled!!
But when I checked out the contest rules, I was shocked to read that residents of some specific countries are not allowed, not to mention the age restrictions!!
Now unless one purposely doesn't want to see, there are quite a few things common between the countries that are not allowed in this contest! Most of these are Islamic nations and are also known to be anti-America!
Do you really expect 'artists' to be part of a venture which smacks of such partisan attitude! And for God's sake what has age got to do with making a piece of art!
I hope someone will clear my doubts, unless they are true of course!
I have always believed Firefox to be an universal piece of software, symbolic of our endeavour for freedom from the hands of a few powerful corporations! The rules of this contest are against the very concept of being universal, against the very spirit of Firefox lovers!!
well mister or misses universe...if that islamic dude wins and shops something on the amazon do u really wanna be the guy or girl to deliver that stuff to him? or do u really wanna be the family of that islamic guy and ur neighbours to see u receiving a package from america? think before u talk. there are consequences of our actions but some of you just can't think that far ahead. mozilla thought this carefully and balanced its actions...and endure the consequences of their actions like u talking bad against them. but you can't think from their perspective. so u better shut up. oh right first amendament or whatever i'm not us nor islamic. i'm european
Please use this discussion forum for contest-specific topics only. While I understand that geographic limitations may have disappointed those who were rendered ineligible, please keep in mind that Mozilla is a global and open organization. This contest is simply another great way to get our community involved and we're pretty excited about it. I'd appreciate if you use this forum for discussing topics related to the design contest, while maintaining respect towards other community members.
Hi there,
As mentioned in a previous response to a similar concern, I'd like to reiterate that incorporating an open-source flavor to all of our operations and projects is among Mozilla's top priorities. So it goes without saying that we'd like this contest to be extended to * everyone * all over the world! But unfortunately due to legal and logistical reasons, we were met with limitations. There is no common thread behind the countries that are ineligible other than the fact that we were unable to work through the legal and logistical complexities of doing so in those particular locations. We worked very hard to make this contest as internationally accessible as possible, and we're working hard to improve our reach each time. Thank you for the question, and for your understanding.
Don't forget, voting is open to everyone and your vote counts! so make sure to check back with us and vote for your favorite T-Shirt design once the finalists have been chosen!
Please make sure that in addition to uploading your photos to your account and tagging it with the appropriate phrase, you are ALSO adding it to the group image pool. You must first become a member of the group and then add your photo to the pool in order for it to appear. Also when you add it to the pool, there is a brief waiting period for the image to be approved. Hope that helps!
Wait wait...a $250 gift card, for 1st place?! Is this some kind of joke? The going rate for t-shirt contests is ~$2500. I'm surprised no one bothered to research this. I'm kind of insulted actually. No real artist is going to waste their time, but good luck anyhow.
i'm almost insulted that my fellow designers are so put off by the small number of limitations about this contest that they are refusing to give back to a community that may have helped them.
It would not be hard to get more sponsors as long is its not a Amazon.com: Exclusive
Some designs have all ready been posted.. its about passion and desire to give back, The winner will have bragging rights and featured at the mozilla store. quality guaranteed there will be excellent submissions.
Some mozilla Firefox lovers are willing to settle for just the fame and not the prize its a great opportunity for an aspiring designer through experienced professional.
1st Place Winner:
* Worldwide recognition for designing the official Firefox 3 T-Shirt featured in the Mozilla Store.
* A free Firefox 3 T-Shirt to show off your winning design.
* $250 gift voucher to Amazon.com.
4 runners up:
* A free Firefox 3 T-Shirt with the winning design.
* A $50 gift voucher to Amazon.com.
What types of files do you consider SVG-based files? For example, I could create a fully scalable vector in jasc paintshop pro, and save it as a .PSP file, but would that be acceptable? A list would be nice! :)
the problem with using just the globe is there are strict guidelines when using the mozilla Firefox logo this is why we have only jpg's available on spreadfirefox your more then welcome to contact mozilla Mozilla®, Firefox® and the Mozilla and Firefox Logos are registered trademarks of the Mozilla Foundation. For licensing and usage guidelines, please see the Mozilla Trademark Policy
I have been trying for several years to get a vector logo. Why is this not available? It makes absolutely no sense to me.
1. The entrant design must be a vector file.
2. The Firefox logo is not available in vector format.
Ergo: The entrant design must not contain the Firefox logo.
Thank you Jamey,
As you mentioned, there are strict guidelines governing the use of the Mozilla Firefox logo and that includes any modifications of the existing image (such as stripping it down to the globe). Please check out the Mozilla Foundation Trademark Policy for more details.
According to that document if you use the word firefox it must appear with the word mozilla, and appear to the right, or below, the foxglobe image. Does that mean that I can't place the word firefox in large letters across my design, without the globe present? Also about 99% of the designs uploaded to your flickr page have edited the globe in someway, or have used the word firefox without the word mozilla. Does that mean you don't have any valid entries yet?
Seems like there are some misunderstandings around this.
The official Firefox wordmark does not equal simply writing the word "Firefox" in text. The official Firefox wordmark is a specific file, using a specific font with specific kerning etc... It also has to be a specific color. If somebody was to take that file and stretch it, or add polka dots, or something like that then it would be a problem. But, just writing the word Firefox as part of the design is something totally different...that's would not be the wordmark. I hope this helps.
The same goes with the Firefox Logo. You cannot take the original file, the original image and create modifications. But you may draw a fox, your own original work of art and present that on your design. The main purpose here is to maintain a consistent visual identity, and avoid confusion and misunderstandings in the market by the users. So as long as its clear what you have is not taken straight off the original logo, that should be okay. But if you DO use the logo, then it must adhere to all the Trademark Policies.
Because the competition does not allow that any person of any place of the world participates, being that only the prize allowed for not determined places of the world because of the laws created by the men.
I want to say, I am Brazilian and would very like to participate. But not for the prize, and yes, to make a contribution to the Firefox and to be able who it knows, to see this all my contribution printed in shirts for the world.
my English is lamentable, forgives.
---

Clarification for round two
*All Finalists will be subject to verification of eligibility and compliance with these Rules, will be required to sign and return to Sponsor an affidavit of eligibility (or equivalent if outside the USA), liability/publicity release within five (5) days of the date of notification, otherwise the chance to go to the second round of judging will be forfeited, and the Entrant having the next highest score will be deemed to be a Finalist*
I have question for the above rule. I think it will help everyone who qualifies. :)
Does this apply even if you are above 18. And if yes then what document will you require from people outside of the USA?

Manipulating the Firefox Logo
Hi Everyone,
I was wondering what the constrains are to editing the Firefox Logo.
Here is my Entry into the competition. Am I breaking the rules here? I don't believe I am but another contestant seems sure of it.

Thanks,
Michael
Re: Manipulating the Firefox Logo
Unfortunately that design will not work. It definitely violates the trademark policy as it is altering the logo. Its a very very strict Trademark policy and so it does not support any modifications. This has been stressed many times and unfortunately a number of designs in the contest pool are not eligible for the second round. You still have about one week left to re-design and re-submit! Good luck.

Doesn't make much sence.
Ok I understand now.

Re: Trademark Policy

Can anyone Explain?
Hi everyone,
After taking another look at my design I realized my jigsaw piece was hiding the tm symbol. I have updated a new version and hope this is completely allowed.
But I have been told that I cannot edit the Firefox Logo in this way. Can anyone explain if this is true or not?
I hope this thread comes in handy for some other people who may be confused with the topic.
Thanks,
Michael
Hi Tara!!!
I am preparing for my next Design and your comments on the above would be very helpful, so I can avoid any similar mistakes . . .
Thanks & Warm Regards!!
Mike
Firefox logo
Hi - I just want to make sure: will it be acceptable if I use the logo (with no alterations made to it) cropped into a shape to such a degree that you don't see the logo - you basically just see some colour?

Visual Identity Guidelines
NO Modifications to logo
Unfortunately the Trademark policy is very very strict and the modifications you suggested above will not be accepted. I have been asked this question many times and the legal team's answer stands firm. No modifications! That includes covering the logo with other elements, removing individual elements from the logo, changing the color, texture etc... sorry.
~Tara
Reevaluation
After reading some posts on the flickr page, I came to the conclusion that my submission would be unacceptable. I will hold off on submitting until I redesign my entry.
But the questions still stand. If these points could be clarified, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
About Rule 13
Please give more details on this part:
Re: Rule 13

How can I know if I can participate from Colombia?
Re: Eligibility
By reading the Official Rules section on Eligibility. I believe residents of Columbia are eligible to participate in the contest! Can't wait to see your designs!

SVG from GIMP
Hi, I was wondering about the svg design rules. I have Inkscape but am no master. I have a little bit more skill with The GIMP but that isn't a vector graphics program. Would it be allowed if I made my design with gimp and transfered it to svg using Inkscape?
Seth
Re: SVG from GIMP
Hi there,
GIMP is indeed a raster-graphic editor program (free and open-source).

Can't find the JPG shirt template
For some reason I can't find the JPG shirt template mentioned; I can only find the PSD one. I don't have Photoshop so I really need the JPG file...It's probably right there, but I can't find it.
Re: JPG Shirt Template
The JPG T-Shirt template is attached right next to the Photoshop file. Its actually displayed as a thumbnail view. So if you see an image of a white T-Shirt, thats it! Just right click and "save link as". Hope that helps!

I am writing to on behalf of AIGA
In the wrong place...
Valid Argument?
Alex,
I believe you may have missed the point of this contest entirely.
Brownies
Dont be fooled
Mozilla doesn't pay out a fair prize amount because they don't have to, simple as that. They are on the front page of Google. Im sure out of all the millions of 3rd graders that see the contest link, there will at least be one autistic child that can manage to whip up something noteworthy.
I agree that it is spec
Why are residents of some specific countries not allowed?
Hello folks!
The rules of this contest are against the very concept of being universal, against the very spirit of Firefox lovers!!
well mister or misses
well mister or misses universe...if that islamic dude wins and shops something on the amazon do u really wanna be the guy or girl to deliver that stuff to him? or do u really wanna be the family of that islamic guy and ur neighbours to see u receiving a package from america? think before u talk. there are consequences of our actions but some of you just can't think that far ahead. mozilla thought this carefully and balanced its actions...and endure the consequences of their actions like u talking bad against them. but you can't think from their perspective. so u better shut up. oh right first amendament or whatever i'm not us nor islamic. i'm european
Please use discussion forum for appropriate topics
Hi Everyone
Please use this discussion forum for contest-specific topics only. While I understand that geographic limitations may have disappointed those who were rendered ineligible, please keep in mind that Mozilla is a global and open organization. This contest is simply another great way to get our community involved and we're pretty excited about it. I'd appreciate if you use this forum for discussing topics related to the design contest, while maintaining respect towards other community members.
Thanks again!

Re: Eligibility
Hi there,
As mentioned in a previous response to a similar concern, I'd like to reiterate that incorporating an open-source flavor to all of our operations and projects is among Mozilla's top priorities.
Don't forget, voting is open to everyone and your vote counts! so make sure to check back with us and vote for your favorite T-Shirt design once the finalists have been chosen!

photos not appearing?
I uploaded my designs 5 hours ago, and they are not in the image pool or tag search. why is this? the design link is http://www.flickr.com/photos/24035364@N05/
Re: Photos not appearing
Hi there
Please make sure that in addition to uploading your photos to your account and tagging it with the appropriate phrase, you are ALSO adding it to the group image pool. You must first become a member of the group and then add your photo to the pool in order for it to appear. Also when you add it to the pool, there is a brief waiting period for the image to be approved. Hope that helps!

1st Place Prize..Where is the rest of it?
Wait wait...a $250 gift card, for 1st place?! Is this some kind of joke? The going rate for t-shirt contests is ~$2500. I'm surprised no one bothered to research this. I'm kind of insulted actually. No real artist is going to waste their time, but good luck anyhow.
free publicity? i'm almost
free publicity?
i'm almost insulted that my fellow designers are so put off by the small number of limitations about this contest that they are refusing to give back to a community that may have helped them.

file types?
What types of files do you consider SVG-based files? For example, I could create a fully scalable vector in jasc paintshop pro, and save it as a .PSP file, but would that be acceptable? A list would be nice! :)
Files...
Is it possible to get a high quality version of the the Firefox "Globe" without the fox or the "spread Firefox" Text?
Logo
the problem with using just the globe is there are strict guidelines when using the mozilla Firefox logo this is why we have only jpg's available on spreadfirefox your more then welcome to contact mozilla Mozilla®, Firefox® and the Mozilla and Firefox Logos are registered trademarks of the Mozilla Foundation. For licensing and usage guidelines, please see the Mozilla Trademark Policy

Vector logo
I have been trying for several years to get a vector logo. Why is this not available? It makes absolutely no sense to me.
1. The entrant design must be a vector file.
2. The Firefox logo is not available in vector format.
Ergo: The entrant design must not contain the Firefox logo.
Re: Logo / Files
Thank you Jamey,
As you mentioned, there are strict guidelines governing the use of the Mozilla Firefox logo and that includes any modifications of the existing image (such as stripping it down to the globe). Please check out the Mozilla Foundation Trademark Policy for more details.
Thanks

About the logo
I read the guidelines:
http://www.mozilla.org/foundation/identity-guidelines/firefox.html
According to that document if you use the word firefox it must appear with the word mozilla, and appear to the right, or below, the foxglobe image. Does that mean that I can't place the word firefox in large letters across my design, without the globe present? Also about 99% of the designs uploaded to your flickr page have edited the globe in someway, or have used the word firefox without the word mozilla. Does that mean you don't have any valid entries yet?
Re: About the logo/wordmark
Hi there,
Seems like there are some misunderstandings around this.

Why can't Brazilians participate?
I'd like to know the reason that the contest is void in Brazil.
Thank you
Why everybody does not participate, freedom.
---
