 <description>&lt;p&gt;So, open source has become synonymous with free but is that a legal reality?  No.  Open source projects can charge for their services.  When using the most popular open source license, the GNU/GPL license(s) you can still sell your work.  Nonetheless, the work should not be encoded and future authors cannot encrypt their updates to the code.&lt;/p&gt;
