Welcome

Do you think we will make it? Is your country winning the race? Have any zany ideas to help promote this? We want to hear it! Well, read it. Feel free to express yourself in our Firefox 3 Download Day forum.

the best!

In FAQ, link to http://twitter.com/mozillafirefox who says :

Download Day starts at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time on uesday, June 17th.

FF3 download counts

The count on downloads (at http://www.spreadfirefox.com/en-US/worldrecord ) seem to be unchanged all day. Does anyone know if there is a more reliable real-time count, and if so what would be the URL? Also, the values displayed in the SWF interactive map does not match what is shown on a country by country basis. For example when you have the mouse over the United States it displays 7734930. When you select the United States in the pull down list the value displayed is 8580651. The question is, which is correct? Having accurate and up to date information is important, especially since the world is looking at this information.

When will we know?

Well, it has been some time now.
When will we know whether the world record has been set or not?

Even if they don't accept

I don't care about the World Record.

Firefox will ALWAYS be my preferred Web Browser. It got a record of preference FOR ME !!!

My website on Firefox - a different counter

Is Download Day 2008 fraud?

Lets think. What do you think, how many downloads are made for every 100 people in your country? 0.1? 0.5? 1? NO! Answer is 11! See this webpage for details: http://dd.dzubak.sk/dd_down-pop

Updated estimates of downloads per population

I updated the estimates of downloads per population for 2008-07-07:01am. The Lithuanians still have far more downloads per capita than anyone else in the world, but the percentage of the population is12.8%, which is only a rise of 1.5% since the June 17 launch day.  Most other countries have doubled or tripled their percentages since launch day.

See: http://66.150.224.204/amos/percentDownloadingFF3.html

See estimates after launch day: http://dd.dzubak.sk/dd_down-pop

Maybe the traffic to Lithuania was really going to Russia as some have suggested, but then the numbers should have continued to rise after the launch date. The fact that there was a sudden surge only on launch day, suggests a deliberate attempt to game the system.

Nonetheless, the data is very interesting, and a little depressing since I am currently in Bolivia where only 1 in 1000 have downloaded Firefox 3.0.
Cheers, Amos Batto

Not to judge...but

All right, I suppose that the fact that there are no downloads in one specific country is not really a reason to bash the population of that country (at least in the instance of North Korea) but come on Sololmaon Islands!!! Wake up!! And to those of you in North Korea, just try getting a wireless connection from South Korea. :D EnigmaEntity

Trojan problem after download.

My download resulted in the hijacking of my system. I was unable to use any browser, not even IE. As much as I support Firefox and will continue to do so - I'm using it now as I type this - before Firefox 3 all was fine, after the download - Trojan and no browsers. Fixed now thanks to a techie coming to my rescue. But not impressed.

That's a lie.

I downloaded Firefox 3 and got simply the best browser ever.

It seems that you are a Microsoft employee or you might be a fan of other Browser...

No trojans, no system hijack, just the BEST BROWSER, even better than before.

just kiddin'

Are you a Microsoft employee?

party comment system

i dunno if this is a widespread problem, but when you post a comment, at least of my party page (PARTYPARTYPARTY) it appears to place it at a random location in the page...

anyway, it would be nice to get it fixed

Fake

Unfortunaly i thinks that this record will not be accepted . And just with ONE argument i can prove this...

Lithuania is a country that has a population of about 3.5 million ... And Mozilla it's showing that te cuntry had about 300000downloads till now . Anyone that know the country will see that is impossible this numbers .

Just because of it i don't belive more in the record and i think guiness will not too ...

Lithuania

I know the free software community n Lithuania and can easily belive the results. They had huge promotion compaign and huge mass media coverage for this and have very, very impressive free software penetration. I am surprised that Estonia is not higher on the list.

You should consider that

You should consider that people may have more than one computer :)

to Ceceu Veron

Don't burn with envy - it's normal, because it's download day, but not population day

just be-careful,the reason

just be-careful,the reason he/she mention aren't helping anything

this is the world record of the " most download in a day"

but "not"!!!"not"  one indiviual person, can download only one time  and make of the most download in a day...
XD.

which meant if i :[ "only a single person "  complete download it 10000 time and it will add to it with no problem!!]

it might also have something to do with IP -gateway?

anyway,i download once ,and my will possibly add to UK^^

or is there some rule down there? to make one person per count????don't know, haven't read the long bits of it.

More media features please.

I have been using FF3 for quite awhile now, so have got used to it as it's developed so not big suprises for me but I wish they would add some of the music browsing capabilities from this mozilla project http://getsongbird.com/ (It's a scorcher!) this app is essentially FF geared up for music browsing and downloading and well worth trying for anyone who at anytime ever has used the web to listen to music on more that one occasion!Sorry to hijack on this a momentous day for FF, but this is also an occasion for all that is mozilla and opensource. Eh? http://finsforum.co.uk/

Number of downloads per country not representative?

Hey all,

I don't think the map with al the colors (determined by the number of downloads per country) isn't really representative. For example, the US has got 302 million citizens with only 2.2 million downloads (1 download per 138 citizens)

The Netherlands has got 16 million citizens with 115.000 downloads, ratio is more or less the same as US ;-) Lot's of countries are colored blue or yellow although the ratio is quite high. It would be nice to make a final list of the countries with the highest ratio instead of downloads as well.

Greets to all of you!

Xander (ofcourse citizen of the Netherlands ;-)

Number of Downloads....

Actually, the US has a population of 330+ million, not counting the 20+ million illegals that they don't know what to do with, if they could ever find them and according to Stats, approx. one person out of 100 has a home PC, for one reason or another AND, many others have been brain-washed by Microslop, therefore are bent on using Internet Exploder.  Silly people!!

If you think Experts are Expensive, wait 'til you see how much Amateurs will cost you!

Firefox3 penetration

Here is a very incomplete list of the firefox3 penetration in each country (aka percentage of downloads/population).
Seems Lithuania "cheated" a bit or is very enthusiastic about firefox 3 ;)

  1. Lithuania 9.76%
  2. USA 1.07%
  3. Germany 1.06%
  4. Canada 0.88%
  5. Sweden 0.88%
  6. Poland 0.65%
  7. Japan 0.43%
  8. Russia 0.09%
  9. China 0.02%

Agreed

I recon thats a great idea so that we can see percentage adoption. Also I think that many other conclusions could be drawn if the firefox guys released an indepth analysis chart at the end of downloading.

Eh? http://finsforum.co.uk/

yes

moreover. it should be downloads per users (not citizens). but anyway we can use the picture :)

Hotmail Classic

When will the hotmail bug be corrected? Problem being, when you sign into hotmail it will only open classic view and not the full version. A shame this hasnt be corrected before release.

Hotmail Classic

I just checked and Hotmail Classic works fine, but on the other hand, who the heck uses Not-so-Hotmail, anyways??!   :)

DOWNLOAD.COM

Hey, i just visited download.com where they put firefox 3 as a featured download, and as of this moment, it has registered 13,955,885 downloads! MUCH MORE THAN ON THE OFFICIAL SITE! something has to be done about this!

Download

Their numbers are probably fudged.  I reply more on the FIrefox Download day numbers, rather than from another site.

If you think Experts are Expensive, wait 'til you see how much Amateurs will cost you!

I wonder if it would be

I wonder if it would be possible to take in count those almost 14 million downloads... it would make downloads number increase to more than 20 million.

YEA! or else its not a fair

YEA! or else its not a fair OR accurate count! i just checked softpedia http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Browsers/Mozilla-Firefox-Final.shtml, they also have about a million downloads! IT'd be really bad if these are not considered!

cool

this should be considered and then number of downloads should be added to the total number for the world-record :)

Target reached!

5 million downloads! Congratulations!

Real hermits thar!

NORTH KOREA 0

Real hermits

What did you expect?  Nobody unfortunate to live in North Korea can afford a PC, let alone have access to one.  The crazy man ruling that hell hole doesn't want anybody to have access to the outside world, and find out how great things can be for them, if anybody manages to escape, which some do!   Most of the people there are starving to death if they're not locked up in a concentration camp!  How primitive and savage, huh?

Firefox 3 download version

I downloaded Firefox 3 at around 8pm BST (UTC+1).

When I installed it, it says it was Firefox 3 Release Candidate 3. When Firefox loaded I was presented by the testing-like page telling you all about testing it. I didn't really read it, but that's the gist from when I glanced at it.

Do I have the right version?

Get over the time thing, we've come a long long way

Ok they should really have had a shiny date or countdown timer to stop this crap from happening. But without this to complain about we would probably be arguing about not enough skins or the like.

10 years ago people thought Opera was the No.1 Contender to knock IE off the charts. Firefox has won. If it was on mobile I would be there too. In Ten years the Fox has come a long way. ooo.org is out with a 3.0 release and I've seen the Beta, do not get excited in the least.

With FF3 we have something to be proud off. ITs open, it's community and it's winning.

Well done.

P.S I need a job!

www.outcast.travellerspoint.com

what an absurd launch time

I would have expected midnight in a 'standard' time zone, rather the 10am on the west coast of the states. By the time the day starts, it's already over for a third of the world.
And yes, I know it's still 24 hours, but publicising it starting on the 17th would rather imply that's the date the download starts, which for 1/3 of the face of the planet just isn't the case.

I rather hope this is the biggest cockup of the record breaking attempt, but, alas, I fear this may just be the start of a catistopic failure of a day.

Very poor show, Mozilla. I for one, won't be downloading three today.

Minor quibble - for the

Minor quibble - for the pledge map and later for a map of actual downloads in those 24 hours it would be wise to adjust the coloring so that it would represent the percent of the population and not absolute numbers. For example, if in Latvia 2 people out of 1000 download and in USA 0.8 people per 1000 download, then Latvia must be in a much 'hotter' color then USA.

Oh and countdown to start of the time and to the end of the time for the world record attempt would be *essential* ...

Countries

You haven't put Gibraltar on the map. not very good eh!!.

And i agree with all the others that a countdown timer would have been a very good idea or at least the time in GMT as most people know how far in front or behind they are.

Apparently the marketing

Apparently the marketing team didn't think much of the non-local users. I have to say I took the timezone into account, but I thought the downloading time would start at zero am. If just the timezone wasn't mentioned till several hours ago, I could have settled for it, but even the time wasn't mentioned, which can not be understandable further. These two are combined to make the plan deferred TOO LONG for many pledgers outside the USA, especially those who live in the Far East or in Australia. Think about it, millions of users received the Email informing them the day is 17th when in fact it will start on 18th, what if they will not be available on 18th?

And the exact downloading time still doesn't appear on the frontpage?

It is REALLY sad.

Countdown timer

The down load time is very confusing, a small countdown timer would be of a great help.

Funny enough, I just dl'd it and it should have started in 7 hours here on continent (19:00) for the countries that have the highest percentage of firefox users - silly.
