Not a good beggining for FF3 users

no news nor link for downloading FF3, in South Korea it is already Tuesday 4:10 pm !!!

I start complaining about FF3,

first failure, DELAYED TIME  AND LACK OF COMMUNICATION!!!

In FF2 and earlier, if I

In FF2 and earlier, if I clicked on a link in an e-mail it brought up a dialog box to select the user for Firefox (there are 3 users). This would be if a browser windows was not already open. Beginning with FF3 this no longer happens. Clicking on a link in an e-mail opens the Firefox task, but neither dialog box nor browser ever appear. I have to kill the task, open the program from the start menu or icon, select the user and go back and click on the hyperlink. Is there a way to get things working like they used to? I didn't change anything when I upgraded (so to speak) to FF3. ____________________

More warining would have been nice.

DFD I checked the page every few days, and was surprised at the short notice. I just found the notice yesterday. Lucky that I was home when it happened, as I travel a lot and don't often pay the fare for hotel internet. I was on line right at 11AM Mountain time here in the US, and just about every page on the Mozilla site was crashed and timing out. They should have rented some extra server capacity or listed a bunch of mirror sites. It also took a considerable amount of time to work through the several pages to find the one to download from. Then it gave me 2.0.0.14, and started downloading that. I finally figured out that I had to flush the browser cache in order to get to the new version 3 page. After a couple of hours it started working better and I got my 64 bit Vista Ultimate Desktop downloaded and installed, and started working on the three 32 bit XP laptops in the family. Just sent out a note to my e-mail list now that I've tested it and it works well on all. Frustrating that it was so slow at first, but that means we probably overwhelmed the servers right off the bat. All in all it was fun, and I'm sure version 4 will go smoother with lessons learned.

Quit complaining.

You people don't seem to understand what's going on. The Mozilla Foundation will start work at 8.30am, getting everything ready for 10am. Over a MILLION people are going to be downloading this at once, they need to get servers ready, have technicians on backup in case something goes wrong, indeed, they even have to release the thing! Not to mention the fact that no matter what time zone they picked, it was always going to annoy someone - particularly the Guinness World Record guys who have to be on-site to adjudicate on the record.

Quite funny to call people "arrogantly US-centric" when you're demanding the Mozilla crew and the Guinness team go into work in the middle of the night so that you don't have to wait a few hours for something which has taken nearly a year to code! As an irish guy, that sounds ever so typically British ;)

By the way, if you -really- want, FF3 is already available. Just remember to download it again when the counting starts.

Yea

Yea, Yea, I took the timezone into account, but I thought the downloading time would start at zero am. If just the timezone wasn't mentioned till several hours ago, I could have settled for it, but even the time wasn't mentioned, which can not be understandable further. These two are combined to make the plan defered TOO LONG for many pledgers outside the USA, especially those who live in the Far East or in Australia. Think about it, millions of users received the Email informing them the day is 17th when in fact it will start in 18th, what if they will not be available in 18th?

Shouldn't the user complain about that?

Poor execution

The main gripe appears to be the lack of timely and accurate information.

If a timetable had been posted on the main FF3 page, even during the last 48 hours, I doubt that many would have had so much of an issue.

Ultimately it would appear that what seemed a good idea - making June 17th "Download Day" - was poorly realised.  It raised the anticipation level of the release of Firefox. The result is the understandable frustration of people whose time zones are ahead of Firefox HQ in California.

BTW I'm Irish too. But I still find this whole experience poorly executed.

Bad organisation! No exact Information on the MAINPAGES.

Why is on the Mainpage no Countdown or the Information, when the Download Start. They cant say, the Download Day start on June 17. But in my timezone is then 19:00. Defination of a DAY is :

German: Eine Zeitspanne von 24 Stunden, die um 00:00 Uhr beginnt und um 24:00 Uhr endet. 24:00 Uhr fällt mit dem Beginn des nächsten Tages zusammen (ISO 8601)

English: A period of 24 hours. starts at 00:00 and end at 24:00. 24:00 is also the beginning of the next day. (ISO 8601)

i am a little bit angry about the bad information about the START in the different TIMEZONES and now i download it on june 18. but not before 19:01!(My Timezone) and forget my pledge! Maybe on the Lounch of the 4.0 they try it again, an then they inform the user around the world a little bit better. mehli.de from germany!

firefox 3 is avaible

btw, final version of firefox 3 is already avaible on the web(authentic, not a fake).

But if you going to download it now, remember to download also after official release from mozilla site, to support beating guiness record.

What a letdown

The schedule for the release of FF3 is extremely ill-conceived.

Considering the Internet is a global phenomenon, it is ridiculous that in light of attempting a world record that Mozilla is so arrogantly US-eccentric. The argument that because Mozilla is US-based that scheduling has to ratate around there doesn't wash as Mozilla has locations in Japan and Europe.

The majority of the world will have gone to bed by the time Mozilla deign to release their browser. I live in the UK and can't attempt download until 1800!

What a great way to alienate the users around the world. You can shove your World Record!

Calm down, nobody said

Calm down, nobody said firefox 3 will be launched 17th june european time. It's only about 17-18 hours difference, don't make a big deal.

patience...

What a wasted effort

So you tell everyone to download it as many times as they can etc.

It is now 09.13 in the UK and it's not become available to us to download. Why do the US take priority, theyre not the centre of the universe.

If they are you could of at least told the rest of us throughout the world that the download time would start at 13.00 or 18.00 etc.

Hugely disappointed

Please, FOR ALL see this

agree....

Clearly, it could have started at anytime, but it should have been mentionned in the reminder email or at *least* on the front page of the www.spreadfirefox.com website.
(which i advise you to do urgently)

I usually don't like easy bashing on americans, but today will be more remembered as the day where firefox crew just ignored the world outside california region.

3:02 AM IN AMERICA

And I am still seeing no link to download firefox3. I am in the Central Time Zone.

I am starting to wonder what is going on. It is 12:43 AM at there home in Mountain View CA, which means that they are late. This is supposed to be a 24 hour event. An event that I have put such high hopes into, that I set a reminder 3 months ago. I hate using reminder software, because it is known to slow down my computer. But I did it, and they are NOT putting out. I want to help them, I really do. But I am getting tired here, and this is becoming a pain. If it is not up by 4:00AM, I am going to bed. If I miss it, then I am going to have to count it as there fault...

Go to bed!! you have hours to wait!

The idiots in Mountain View are unaware that the 17th June means something different to the rest of the planet. You have 8 more hours to wait!

Lame Egocentric idiots - it is a shame they only get their source from the community not their brains.

How f#8king stupid!

This has pissed me off so much - I had it all planned - stupid arrogant Americans - 10am PDT - this is the 18th for most of the world! What a waste of time - lets hope all those West Coast americans can break a record!

Its hard to please everyone!

Hey guys, isn't it obvious that it is hard to please everyone in this regard. Besides, Mozilla Foundation is based in the USA. It is only acceptable that they release according to their local time. Check this link for your local time of release. Don't be so short-sighted and spoil the fun!
Check here for your local time: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?month=6&day=17&year=2008&hour=10&min=0&sec=0&p1=224&sort=1
Indian time: 10.30 PM Tuesday, 17th June
I plan on living forever, until I die.

What a mongrel response! You

What a mongrel response!

You can please everyone - use a standard timezone - no mention of 10am PDT in the email - so what assumption should people make?

Sometimes, it pays to look at Mozillas site...

Download Day Kickoff!
mary · 21:09, June 16th, 2008 · Firefox

We’re just over 12 hours until the start of the long-awaited Download Day! Our Guinness World Record attempt will start when Firefox 3 is officially launched at approximately 10:00 a.m. PDT (17:00 UTC) on Tuesday, June 17th.

At that time, please check out the official Download Day site to download Firefox and for a map of worldwide downloads!

Well here I am, nearly 4 am

Well here I am, nearly 4 am eastern standard time (GMT-5), throwing a mini-party with online friends for the FF3 release. Started at 11 thinking it would be released at midnight. Then thinking it might be released at 3am (midnight for the FF team) but obviously not. I may not download till next week out of pure annoyance, I'm going to bed.

I've never had any issues with FF and I try to convert all IE users, but it seems the people behind it just don't live up to their program.

My little addon says "10 hours till download day" if that means anything to the rest of the users. Maybe they wont do it till noon. Ugh.

:-) PDT was bad choice. UTC is obvious

But as you know. Only 8000 finns are promising to download and 200.000 in US.
It is allways so hard for US people to understand that there is a rest of world too and standards. Hey, they used inches and miles. Happy with firefox still, it is not spoiled and is good base standard of browser world :-)

Hum.

Sorry folks, but chances are FF had to cater to the countries who pledged the most downloads during the day. Besides, it's a 24 hour event -- you'll have plenty of time to download it to count.

And if you didn't notice. They HAVE already announced times, it's the first post on the homepage.

it is already 13.00 hours 17th june in india

it is already 13.00 hours 17th june in india but no download of firefox 3 seems possible ?

what is the matter ?

You people do care only about American Time ? You should have some respect for the different Time Zones while announcing the download time and date.

How disappointing ....

Yeah what a bunch of losers.

Yeah what a bunch of losers. I won't be downloading Fx this day. Go to hell.
