Getting people off MSIE
As far as rewards go I am happy when I explain to people why I installed Firefox on their computer (when I build or repair it). The "wow this is cool" face on people makes it worth it. However a t-shirt for X amount of "points" would be cool.
Getting people out of the MSIE trap is great. While I know I will never be on the top of the rank list, I know I am doing something to improve the lives of people while they use the internet.
Points not Paypal
Hi JerryDu123,
I'm excited to see you as a new member to the program! Unlike a traditional affiliates program, ours does not offer a monetary reward for participating. Instead, the clicks that you generate with your Get Firefox buttons will get you points. These points determine your affiliate ranking.
We're changing the structure of the program very soon. The points may offer you the chance to win t-shirts, other Firefox stuff, discounts to the Mozilla Store, etc.
What do you think? What would you like to see?
Rewarding Affiliates with Chance and a ranking?
Firefox is a great browser - I recently convinced my dad to get it since some of the websites he needed to visit wouldn't function properly in IE7. It is a great browser and I have posted two articles on my website reccomending it. I have to agree that bloggers, web designers, etc., are using up valuable ad space on their website/blog to promote Firefox for points, when they could profit more by joining a second affiliate program similar to Google Adsense who does offer monetary rewards. I think Firefox could lose a good chunk of affiliates to a second affiliate program that will help them financially. Only the top 250 affiliates are shown on the weekly affiliates page, so many unpopular websites aren't even given a chance to generate traffic via the affiliate program unless they benefit Mozilla more than an average user. I think Spreadfox should offer something that guarantees a personal benefit for every user. Perhapse convert points to cash that can pay for things at the mozilla store - not just give a "chance to win" discounts. A chance is not a guarantee, and I think Spreadfox would generate more revenue via affiliates if they guaranteed something more than chance to their supporters.
Google Adsense
There is currently a firefox with google toolbar affiliate program offered by google adsense, and sorry to see it being discontinued in August. I would love to see a replacement monetary reward scheme like this, without the toolbar though. Is it against Mozilla Foundation policy to have a monetary affiliate program?
Regards,
Wayne
