improving user interface

Hi, I have just joined this suggestion group and I have what I think is a very good idea.

Just getting to grips with the new Firefox 3 and I have to say i love the amount of space it gives for the actual web page, finally someone realised we dont want to see how pretty the browser is we want as much page as possible especially since use of notebooks and other small devices has increased.
what would further improve this would be if the status bar in firefox had the auto hide function that windows task bar has, e.g. when its says done it vanishes giving that little bit more screen, i know this is a small thing but it would be nice.

what do you think?

Maximizing usable space

One thing you can do to maximize the usable space you have in the viewport (web page display window) is toggle the zoom level using keyboard shortcuts.

  • Use Ctrl - to zoom out and make things smaller.
  • Use Ctrl + to zoom in.
  • To reset, use Ctrl 0.

This is one of my favorite features in Firefox 3. With Firefox 2, only the font size would change. With Firefox 3 the whole website zooms out and zooms in proportionally. This effect is clean looking (at least on Ubuntu). I'm at a coffee shop using my laptop that doesn't have a very high resolution screen and I've got the window zoomed out two notches for a website I'm working on. With that set, I can see a lot more of the page.
