Notes from the Oct. 7th Community Marketing Call

Hi all:  Thanks for joining our call on Wednesday, Oct. 7th.  We should have archived video up on Monday, Oct. 12th.  Here are the notes:

  • Firefox 3.6:
    • Target launch by end of year.
    • Heavy focus on personalization and plugin updates
    • Marketing-related plan here.
  • Thunderbird 3 update
    • Launching this November
    • Press tour is underway
    • Join #maildev or #spreadthunderbird to learn how to get involved
  • Mozilla Mission Banners:  Now available on Spread Firefox.  Thanks to Jamey Boje for designing them!
  • Mozilla Magazine
    • Marco Castelijn, Jamey Boje, Paul Booker and others are working to develop a Mozilla Magazine.
    • Focus will be on peer reviewed, editorial content.
    • Discussion during call included creating some way to capture news and articles that are submitted that don't make the magazine.
    • Please provide Marco any feedback.

  • Five Years of Firefox (Nov. 9, 2009)
    • Otto has set up a discussion area on Spread Firefox to share comments & thoughts.
  • Campus Reps:  Now 2,000 members strong.  Good work!
  • Events:
    • Mozcamp EU wrap up:
      • Awesome event.  Just check out Chofmann's reaction to the community.
      • Great sessions on Mozilla & Firefox advocacy.  Presentations will be compiled here.
    • Mozcamp Chile:
      • Underway - check out the wiki for presentation and an idea of the schedule & content.
    • Philipine Blog Awards:
    •  Mozilla is co-sponsoring the Philippine Blog Awards on  Oct. 9th in Manila.  Gen Kanai will be in attendance is trying to  organize a community dinner on Saturday evening in Manila.  Please contact him to join!
    • Mozilla Meetups in Germany:  Tomcat has been hosting these informal gatherings with much success.  Check out the 2nd meeting.  They are very easy to host -- just find a bar and get the word out!
      • Tomcat & Rebron to organize one for Thunderbird in November.  Dan Mosedale will be in Munich.
      • Tomcat also shared a great blog post of his & article on Open Source in government.
