A dying project?
Is Firemonger coming to its end? It has always been so useful but recently it has fallen behind on its releases and is now way back on ff 2.0.0.1! But is it still a good idea?
well i think so. maybe the program could do with a small up date and a new lick of paint but it still has that spark. No flame, to be a great project. FF cds is still a great way to spread ff and even tb but we are letting it go to waste!
"The project is sort of on the life support machine. Sometimes we have a visitor, the Forum is the domain of spam bots and the first and last news post is almost a year old. So is the last Firemonger version. sad.gif
Maybe it's time to 'officially' call it over, or hibernate it till someone else wants to use it/work on it.
How much is the hosting and domain names costing Nomad? If much, how to cut cost on thinks we do not need.
My ideas:
- a final news post on the homepage
- read only for all forums, and a new one for all talk/spam/etc.
- nice warning on the download page
- having a pint on the project (just as an excuse)"
I could not belive this when i read it but it is true!
so lets save the project and help get it back on its feet shall we!
Come on!
The team at Firemonger has
The team at Firemonger has actually discussed this very thing for about a year. Unfortunately many of us had to cut our hours on the project hugely all within a short time period, including our main developer, which eventually led to the virtual death of Firemonger we now see.
We have one developer, Oren, who is willing to put in time, but only if he is convinced there is a need for Firemonger in Firefox marketing. Other than him, there are a few more people hanging around the forums that would help out (FuzzyFox included). We also have a very dedicated server admin. I was involved with design and content, but I'll likely begin taking a project lead role. We'd be really excited to see Firemonger revived, if it's decided there is good reason to, and anything you can contribute, Mr. Boje, would be great.
I've created a project group in order to discuss the future of the project. Please join at http://www.spreadfirefox.com/node/1692.

Maybe the guys over at Firemonger should look into smf or phpbb? That may help them out.
NOT phpbb
NO way on phpbb I am a admin on a site and I get spam all day long,
the best is vBulletin be again its going to need members to help can be a one man show
phpBB uses phpBB and have a big team helping and https://labs.mozilla.com is useing a script from http://www.simplemachines.org

phpBB
Spam isn't dependent on which package you use, but on how you set it up. Requiring registration for example is an important step to preventing spam. BTW phpBB is available under a full Open Source license while SMF gets close but just falls short. No forum is ever going to work without real people behind it either, the choice of forum software is really secondary to that.

SMF
I use smf too, the only reason i said phpbb was coz it was the second thing that come into my head
