Spreadfirefox.com

Welcome to the spreadfirefox.com group.

The purpose of this group is to keep track of changes to spreadfirefox.com and to discuss the next set of features and improvements to sfx.

We're now planning the next set of changes to spreadfirefox.com. Among them is the new affiliates program, to be launched very soon. We also want to plan for improvements and new features that will make the site easier to use for everyone.

We have started discussions on specific topics in the forums with initial thoughts. At this point, we'd like your feedback on the site, and on those proposals. You should feel free to suggest any feature or fix you think would be valuable. We'll collect feedback over the next 2 weeks.

Join the discussion and tell us what improvements you would like to see on spreadfirefox.com. To make things easier, we've created a thread for each section of the site (ex: front page, groups, user profiles, etc.).

Flaunt your Mozilla and Firefox shirts in December!

David Rolnitzky is kicking off a "No Laundry in December" or at least until your stash of Firefox and Mozilla shirts run out:

firefox in india.............

firefox in india is largely unheard...........
well this is because not many ppl know about the benefits of firefox and even its presence...........

Update: SFx Homepage Re-design

Hi all:  Per Alix's earlier post we're kicking off a light redesign of the Spread Firefox homepage.  The goals are to simplify it, make it easier to get involved and showcase the great community behind this effort!  We're working with The Royal Order, the folks who helped us

Centralized Suggestions Area

The groups system on Spread Firefox is very hard to navigate and find what you are looking for. It is not very clear where to submit suggestions and feature requests bug reports etc. This should be easily accessible from the main groups area.

Perhaps there could be a forum with sub-forums for each topic i.e.

Update to the quick wins block

I updated the text in the quick wins block on the homepage to see if it helps Sfx members and visitors understand better what quick wins are.
New text:
There are thousands of ways that you can help spread the word about Firefox, most of them only take a few minutes!

Search box on front page

I just changed the order of blocks in the right sidebar of the homepage. The search box is now at the top to make it easier for new visitors to the site to find their way around.

error when posting

Hope this is the right place, anyone else getting an error when posting?

Suggestions for Quick wins

As the quickwins are (were?) they weren't very useful, but I think they could be an awesome feature done right.  Quick wins don't need to be anything complicated, but they should be interesting. This would make them a great way for users to interact with the site by suggesting quick wins of their own.

Events Hub

As part of the rehaul of Spread Firefox, I'd love to take a look at the events hub and how we can make it more user friendly and inviting.  The whole goal of events is to celebrate community and evangelize Mozilla and Firefox.

Opinions for Improvements to Spread Firefox

I'm not quite sure what the primary goal of making changes to SFx is. Is it to implement new features and remove old ones? Is it to work with the current content and just present it differently?

Disabled "what people are talking about"

Disabled the "what people are talking about" block (frontpage_blog_view) to prevent some of today's javascript issues to show up through the comments on the homepage.

Campus Reps Block Changes

I made my first edit to the block today... changed the text a bit and added link to the campus reps signups.  I will add new comments here for future changes.

Group Emails

The latest security update enabled email notification of group postings, which is why some of you received quite a few emails this weekend. Email notifications have been turned off again and will only be turned back on once the duplicate postings bug is fixed.

See bug 429407 for more details.

Login issues

There was an issue with logging into spreadfirefox.com on 8/16. This issue has been fixed. See bug 450877 for all the details.

New features?

What new features/functionality would you like to see on spreadfirefox?

Here are some of the ones we came up with - what do you think?

Mashup:

Other changes?

Are there some changes that don't fit in any other category you would like to see on the site?

Here's an initial list:

Content/Documentation/Help

Is there specific content you would like to see on spreadfirefox.com? What about documentation and help? Is there a question you could not find the answer to on the site?

Here are some of the ideas we came up with, we would love your feedback:

User Profiles

Do user profiles have too much or too little information? What would you like to communicate in your profile? What would you like to see when looking at other members' profiles? (Note: you can edit your user profile at My Stuff->My account. To view other users' profiles, simply click on their username.)

Some possibilities:

Groups

Groups are a great way to rally around specific initiatives and to discuss specific projects. There are over 160 groups on spreadfirefox.com today! Anyone is free to create a group, anyone is free to join a group. About half of them are focused on specific geographies or languages, the other ones are global projects.

Front page of Sfx

The front page is the gateway to community marketing activities. Currently, it looks nice, but it can be hard to navigate. A user visiting this page should be able to quickly see what activity is currently happening and how to get involved. Therefore, it would be good to have more editorial content on the front page and a simpler page.
